Product Description
Type Vintage lever fill pen which works beautifully and has a flexible nib.
Product Name Model 72, as marked at the end of the barrel
Manufacturer and Year John Holland, USA -- Early 1900s, this pen uses the first of the two patented "hatchet filler" systems. The first came out in 1908. The second one came out in 1913.
Length 5-1/2"
Filling System Hatchet filler. We have replaced the bladder and it works very well. This is a simple sac/pressure bar type of filling system .... you flip the lever, which reveals a tab that you then press to compress the sac.
Color Black hard rubber cap and barrel with gold filled overlay. The engraved overlay pattern is mostly large flowers with some stems. Gold filled hatchet system.
Nib Medium semiflexible nib. The nib is a #12 Holland nib that offers some line variation. The tines spread easily but not all that far. Please see the writing sample below. Despite having a high number, #12 Holland nibs are actually quite small.
Condition Excellent + condition. The black hard rubber is dark and consistent in color. There are some dings at the top of the cap and a little brassing on the lip around the gold filled inset at the top of the cap. The lever has brassing. No cracks or chips. The imprints are clear.
