Product Description
Type Vintage piston filler fountain pen
Product Name 344G (it's written on the knob). The 3 indicates that it is one of Montblanc's so-called third-tier pens, the next 4 means that it has a piston-filling mechanism, and the final 4 is the nib size. The G at the end signifies that it has a gold nib. Note that even though these were Montblanc's "economy" pens in the 1950s, the quality is still quite high.
Manufacturer and Year Montblanc, Germany, 1950s
Length 5-1/8"
Filling System Piston filler, tested and working well.
Color Black with gold plated trim
Nib FLEXIBLE BB, marked on the piston cap. Not full flex, but classic every day flex. 14c. Very smooth with almost perfect tipping material. See writing sample.
Condition Excellent condition. Ink viewing window is clear, no staining. The star logo on the cap is missing its painted outline, but the outline itself is still visible. The Montblanc logo with mountain graphic that's on the side of the cap is in excellent shape, with nearly all of its paint. Both clip and cap band have scratching and some brassing. The ring that holds the clip onto the cap has a crack on the back side, which we've detailed in the pictures. Clip is still firmly attached, no wiggling, but this is something you might want to keep an eye on. No cracks or significant scratches. The pen is working well, and the nib is delightful. There's a logo on the side of the cap opposite the "Montblanc" imprint, we're not sure what it signifies.
