Product Description
Type Limited edition fountain pen, in elaborate box with paperwork
Product Name La Sirena. We can't definitively say how many were made - we've seen conflicting reports of 1912, or 1998, or 2000. What we do know is that this is #426, engraved on the ring at the front of the section, as well as on a sticker on the box.
Manufacturer and Year Montegrappa, Italy, 1998.
Length 5-5/8"
Filling System Piston filler. Tested and working well.
Color Deep blue resin (reminds us a bit of lapis lazuli, with flecks of black and gold) with an elaborate, deep relief sterling silver mermaid scene on the barrel, and a mermaid clip.
Nib MEDIUM 18k 750 rhodium masked nib. Very smooth.
Condition Near mint condition, in box with paperwork. We believe that the pen has been dipped, but we don't think it was inked. The cap has some microscratching on the resin material. Although there is some tarnish, which is a bit difficult to polish away due to the topology, the silver work looks great. There are some scratches on the resin surface underneath the silver overlay, which we believe are simply the result of scraping as the overlay was set into place. The pen is packaged in the original "treasure chest" wooden box, with velvet lining. Underneath the platform, there is the warranty booklet, as well as a book with the history of Montegrappa. There's another booklet with some more information about this special edition. The treasure chest is enclosed in a sturdy cardboard box. A pair of white gloves are also in the box, though we didn't include those in the photos; we are including them as they make excellent padding and help keep the pen from moving around too much.
One of the tines on the nib is slightly twisted. We adjusted it and the pen writes well for us.
