Product Description
Type fountain pen
Product Name Reminiscence Series
Manufacturer and Year Montegrappa, Italy -- 1984-2001. The 1055VI hallmark indicates the pen was made in Vicenza during the Aquila ownership. The model was introduced in 1983 and switched from ebonite to sterling sections in 1984, and in 2001 the hallmark would have changed to MI for Milan).
Length 5-1/16" long. There were two sizes; this is the larger one.
Filling System Takes international cartridges and converters. A piston converter is installed and two short black cartridges are included.
Color Vermeil with a black piece at the end of the barrel. Just below this piece, the end of the barrel is threaded for posting. There is a Greek key or meander pattern on each of the pen's 8 facets (viewed at one angle you see the classic meander pattern, but a slight shift makes the crosswise lines more prominent and the pattern looks zigzagged). It is hallmarked 925 for the sterling beneath the gold plating.
Nib BROAD 18k gold nib. It is partially masked and has a B written near the base.
Condition Excellent condition. The top of the cap has several small nicks. The rest of the cap has plating wear on several of the facets; not all of them, perhaps suggesting that the pen was kept in the box and the sides that were more exposed to air got more oxidation. The clip has dots of pitting on the sides. There is plating wear on the front edge of the section near the nib. Some of the barrel facets also have dots of plating wear. The end finial has scratches on the surface. The threads at the end of the barrel for posting the cap have the expected plating wear. Ships with box, paperwork, pen sleeve, and gold-plate (not vermeil) pen tube with smooth facets. The pen tube, which is not vermeil, also has pitting on some of the facets. The box is in good shape, with some wear on the corners.
