Product Description
Type Lever fill fountain pen and mechanical pencil set
Product Name Unknown
Manufacturer and Year Morrison Fountain Pen Company, New York (1930s). Morrison was one of the third tier pen makers, but these pieces are from one of the nicer lines we've seen, so we suspect this was top of the line.
Length Pen is 5-1/8", pencil is 4-3/4".
Filling System The pen is a lever filler, which we have fully restored with a new sac. The pencil takes 1.1mm ("thick") leads, which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism. Both pieces are working perfectly.
Color Gold filigree is in a sort of floral design over black hard rubber. the overlay on the pen's barrel, as well as on the pencil are stamped with "1/40 - 14k", indicating that there is gold content, though not very much.
Nib FINE Morrison 14k NY nib. It's soft and bouncy, with subtle line variation.
Condition Excellent condition. The fountain pen has light scratching and handwear on the cap and barrel. The hard rubber has some slight fading. The barrel overlay looks really good, with minimal brassing or plating wear. The cap overlay has some small spots of brassing scattered throughout. There is an area of corrosion on the lower edge of the cap "finial", and some plating wear around the upper edge of the cap. The clip has some brassing around the top, but the rest of the clip look quite good. The pen is almost perfect, with just tiny dots of brassing in the gold filled filigree pattern (see photos) and around the top edge of the cap. Hardly a scratch on it, no chips, cracks, or tooth marks.
The pencil also looks good. There is light scratching and handwear on the overlay. We see a crack in the overlay near the front of the pencil. It's small and the metal remains largely in place. The cone has scratching and some tiny dots of pitting. The twist top has some spots of plating wear and blotches of brassing. The clip rivets are brassed. The rest of the clip looks great. The pencil is actually quite nice and works well. (It's not adding much to the price, so please don't ask to buy the fountain pen without the pencil.). The two look great together, and the fountain pen is really nice. Fully restored and working perfectly.
