Product Description
Type Aerometric filling fountain pen, working well.
Product Name Parker 51 Special (Specials usually have octantium nibs, but towards the end of the model life Parker started putting 14k nibs on them. This pen has the black jewel, and "Special" on the filling system.)
Manufacturer and Year Parker, made in U.S.A. -- late 1950s-1960s (no date code)
Length 5-3/8 inches.
Filling System Aerometric squeeze filling system. We've cleaned and tested it, it's working well.
Color Navy Grey. It has a stainless steel cap with an arrow clip, chrome plated trim, and black cap jewel as is common on Specials. The black jewel looks like it was painted, as opposed to the solid plastic jewels we are used to seeing on P51 Specials.
Nib FINE 14k nib. Parker 51 Specials usually had octanium nibs but they did occasionally have gold nibs.
Condition Excellent condition. The cap has a fair bit of scratching - the 51 Specials had shiny caps, but this one more closely resembles Parker's Lustraloy finish (the black jewel does mark it as a 51 Special cap). The section has a lot of lengthwise scratches from capping, and some light staining. There are some tiny dots of pitting on the clutch ring, but it still functions very well. There is a horizontal mark caused by the end of the clip. The clip looks great, with no brassing or plating wear. The clip ring has a few little dots of plating wear. The black top jewel has some scratching and paint missing from the very top and around the edge. The imprint on the cap is clear.
