Product Description
Type Combination fountain pen and mechanical pencil or leadholder
Product Name We've heard these exist, but it is really not something we've seen before! We understand it is part of the Duofold line.
Manufacturer and Year Parker, USA - circa 1930s
Length 5-3/4" long
Filling System The fountain pen half is a button filler. The pen unscrews in the middle, which reveals the button. We've replaced the sac and tested it, and it's working well. The pencil end seems to take about a 1.1mm lead, though it doesn't seem to be functional. You can push the lead in through the cone, though it's very tight and tends to break off before it's fully inserted. If you remove the cone, there's a sort of sleeve inside the barrel where you could insert a lead, though it's hard to push it out of the narrower front end, and there's not really a way to advance or retract the lead this way. The cone is friction fit into the barrel, and there's nothing that we can see that "clutches" onto the lead.
Color Black with gold-plated trim.
Nib Fine gold nib that simply says "Parker Pen Made in USA". No flexibility, and there is a crack in the nib running from the breather hole into the K in Parker so you definitely shouldn't use any pressure on this!
Condition Excellent condition. The pen works well, at least - though again, we note the crack in the breather hole, so if you do use it, please be very gentle! There is light to moderate scratching and handwear on the cap and barrel. The cap band has light scratching. The clip has scratching, there is plating wear along the sides and around the clip ring, and the ball end has a big blotch of brassing. The cap finial is slightly faded and there are some scratches and bite marks. The nose cone has scratching and some flakes of plating wear near the opening. There are some small marks on the pencil's barrel just above the cone.
The imprint, which reads simply "Geo. S. Parker-Pen-Made in USA / Patented", is clear.
