Product Description
Type Vintage Desk Pens with Base. These are the large, senior size pens.
Product Name Duofold Senior
Manufacturer and Year Parker USA -- circa late 1920s-early 1930s. There are no date codes, which first appear around 1934. George Parker wrote a pamphlet touting the utility of desk sets for "big businessmen" around the world in 1926, and desk sets first appear in Parker catalogs in that same year.
Length The polished black glass rectangular base is around 6-3/4 x 4-1/2", and about 3/4" tall. With pens inserted and standing vertically, they are about 11" tall. The pens themselves are 8-1/4" long. The pen is very long and quite thick, it's the larger of the two Duofold desk pens.
Filling System Button fillers, restored here at PSP with new sacs.
Color The base is polished black glass. There are two pens - one of them has a red hard rubber barrel, and the other has a jade green barrel. Both pens have black sections and tails.
Nib MEDIUM 14k nibs on both pieces, smooth and firm.
Condition Excellent condition for this lovely set. The orange/red pen looks really nice. There is a long scratch on the barrel - it runs about 2" long, in two parts (1" long and 3/4", with about 1/4" in between). Otherwise the barrel looks quite nice. The tail piece has oxidized somewhat to a dark brown color, and the trim ring on the tail has some plating wear. The section is still dark black. The section has some tool marks. The imprint on the orange pen is smoothed down in the middle, but is clear. The jade green pen has faded evenly to an olive color, and is somewhat translucent. No cracks or chips. The tail piece is a faded to a kind of grey-olive color. the trim ring has small spots of brassing. The section is black, with some shallow surface scratching. The nib has some tool marks on the back end, where it fits into the section. The jade is discolored but it is evenly so.
The base has a few tiny little chips along edges. The felt on the bottom has a few small holes, but is holding up nicely. The original Parker decal is present on the front
