Product Description
Type Fountain pen with desk base
Product Name Parker Vacumatic
Manufacturer and Year Parker, made in Canada -- 1938 (the date code on the barrel is a clear 18)
Length The base is rectangular, about 4" x 3.5". With the pen in the trumpet and standing vertical it's about 10" tall. The pen itself is 7-9/16" long.
Filling System Vacumatic filling system has been restored here at Peyton Street Pens and is working well. This has the early lockdown filler system.
Color Burgundy Pearl w/black section and tail. It has alternating burgundy pearl bands and semi-transparent amber bands. We think they called the base "laminated glass" (as seen in a 1938 Parker catalog) - the bottom part is black glass, which has a laminated Burgundy Pearl top, matching the pen.
Nib Medium 14k Parker Canada nib has some flexibility. See our writing sample in the photos.
Condition Excellent condition for this unusual desk set. This is a beautifully colored, shiny pen with great barrel transparency. The barrel has light scratching all over. The tail has light wear with some crosswise scratches near the end of the tail. The section has some scratching on the front edge from contacting the trumpet. The imprints are slightly smoothed but still clear. The base has a chip out of one corner of the glass, and the top corners of the laminated portion have nicks in them. It's still a very handsome set in a gorgeous color.
