Product Description
Type Fountain pen
Product Name Parker Vacumatic Major
Manufacturer and Year Parker, made in USA -- 1945 (the barrel has a date code of 5 with no dots. The nib's date code is 7, and it's not uncommon to have had the nib replaced.)
Length 5-1/16" long.
Filling System Vacumatic plunger filling system has been restored here at Peyton Street Pens and is working well. This has the late plastic plunger system.
Color Golden Pearl body and cap with gold plated trim. It has crosswise golden brown bands alternating with translucent amber bands. The cap has a black cap jewel and a chevron-patterned cap band just over 1/8" wide. It has a blue diamond clip; only small traces of the blue paint remain.
Nib FINE 14k nib, verging on the extra fine. Unusual plain nib, probably a replacement. It has a 1947 date imprint, which is later than the barrel imprint.
Condition Excellent condition. The imprint on the barrel is slightly worn, especially on the right edge, but still readable. The barrel transparency is great. The pattern on the cap band is slightly worn. There are some small dots of pitting on the cap band, as well as a shallow dent. There is also brassing and some plating wear along the edges of the cap band. There is some moderate scratching on the cap, and a few tiny dots which are the only indications remaining of a personalization. The clip has plating wear along the edges and around the open end, and the tassie has tiny dents and dots of pitting. The cap jewel has some small marks, but looks good. There is some heavier scratching near the end of the barrel and on the blind cap. The pen has been restored and is working well.
