Product Description
Type Capless fountain pen -- the nib retracts like a ballpoint
Product Name Decimo (the smaller version of the Vanishing Point)
Manufacturer and Year Pilot (Namiki) Japan -- currently produced. We'd normally use the date code of the nib unit as the date here, but this nib has a date code of A495, which dates it to 1995. This is clearly a nib swap, as the Decimo was first produced in 2005. This does, however, very clearly illustrate that the Decimo and Vanishing Point use the same nib unit.
Length 5-1/2".
Filling System Pilot cartridge or converter. A piston converter is installed.
Color Black with silver trim.
Nib FINE 14k nib, gold colored. We usually see Pilot matching the nib color with the trim color on the pen, so this is another indication that the nib was swapped out. The pen does have the "F" nib size sticker still attached, so they kept the same nib size.
Condition Excellent condition. There are some moderate scratches near the center trim band, and light scratching on the rest of of the cap and barrel. The clip and trim have microscratching. No cracks, chips, dents, or dings. The imprints are crystal clear. The Decimo is a slightly slimmer version of Pilot's Vanishing Point retractable fountain pen - the diameter at the grip of the VP is 11.8mm, whereas the Decimo's grip diameter is 10.6mm. Additionally, the Decimo is lighter - 20.6g vs. 30g for the VP. If you love the retractability and ease of deployment of the Vanishing Point, but it's just a touch too big or heavy, the Decimo may be a better fit for you.
