Product Description
Type fountain pen with bulb filling system
Product Name Postal Reservoir Pen, this is one of the pens chosen for reproduction by Richard Binder around 2010. Pentrace has a nice article full of original advertising and a comparison of the original and reproduction pens.
Manufacturer and Year Postal Pen Co., USA -- 1920s.
Length 5-3/4"
Filling System Bulb filling system. You unscrew the end of the barrel to reveal the rubber squeeze bulb. You pump it a few times to fill the barrel, watching while the level rises in the window. This pen holds a huge amount of ink. It has been restored with a new sac and tested.
Color Black cap, section, and blind cap with a large ambered transparent viewing window. It has gold filled trim in the form of a 1/8" cap band and a clip.
Nib Medium flexible 14k Postal nib. The tines spread easily for line variation but the tipping has a few very small air pockets in it. As a result, the surface of the right tine is just a little scratchy. The nib writes with a little tooth. See the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. There are posting and capping marks on the barrel. The cap band is brassed. The viewing window has ambered but is still very transparent. There aren't any deep scratches but there are some fine scratches on the blind cap and divots in the cap. The cap has bite marks and three deep nicks. Two are in the top of the cap and one is near the top. The cap lip is uneven. The cap imprint is clear. No cracks or personalization. We replaced the rubber bulb, so you'll be good for years and years.
