Color Nikko blue mottled ebonite. The way the ebonite rods were made, the pattern shows up differently at different diameters. The brighter blue colors seem to be towards the middle of of the rods, so the section has distinct blue and black streaks, where the barrel and cap are darker and more hazy, with the lighter blue showing up at the tapered ends. There's a sterling button rollstop with a detailed pattern on top (it reminds us of butterflies). These silver rollstops often develop a patina due to their proximity to the ebonite; here we see it primarily on the lower edge, but it could creep upward. We rather like the patina, but the roll stop can be easily polished so that it appears more silver.
