Product Description
Type Fountain pen
Product Name Sheaffer #2, as marked on the end of the barrel. This is in the flat top family.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- 1920s.
Length The fountain pen measures 5-5/16"
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler, restored with a new sac. We guarantee the filling system for a year from the date of purchase.
Color Black chased hard rubber (BCHR) with a scalloped chasing pattern and a gold filled clip and lever. The gold on the clip is very thin, and the lever looks like it doesn't have any plating at all.
Nib Fine Flexible #2 gold fine nib has easily spread tines for flexible writing and strong line variation from extra fine to broad. We consider it almost full flex. Please see the writing sample below. The nib has some surface scratches, but these should not affect the pen's function.
Condition Very nice condition. There is a small crack in the cap lip, about 1/16" long, and a longer one that is a little over 3/16" (see photo below). The pen should not be posted, or these cracks will worsen. The color is uniformly dark and shiny and the scalloped chasing is clear. The barrel has some surface flaws and light bite marks at the end. The cap has bite marks near the top. The clip has brassing and some plating wear, especially near the ball end and the top edge. The imprints are clear.
