Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling ring-top fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name 46 Special. The end of the barrel is marked D. This letter usually refers to the celluloid manufacturer, in this case, D for DuPont.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- circa 1920s. Pre-1927 when they stopped marking the ends of the barrels.
Length 4-1/2" not counting the ring-top hardware.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Orange radite (the same color as red hard rubber, but it's plastic) with gold plated trim.
Nib FINE gold Sheaffer's #46 Special nib. It's smooth and firm, the tipping coverage is slightly uneven, but covers all of the writing tip and the nib has been aligned and smoothed. No flex (you sometimes see 46 Special nibs with a lot of flex, but that is not the case here).
Condition Superior condition. No cracks or chips, dings or dents, or real plating wear. There's some lesser scratching and marks on the cap and barrel. No bite marks. The imprint is excellent, fairly deep and clear. There are some scratches on the trim but no real plating wear. It's restored and working well.
