Type Vintage full size fountain pen and mechanical pencil in box.
Product Name Balance Lifetime 1000 with a 400 model pencil. You see these 1000s in standard full size like this one, but also in fatter sizes.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA - circa 1935-42 (those were the years of production in this color and with this "radius" clip).
Length The fountain pen is just shy of 5-1/2" long. The mechanical pencil is 5-1/4" and slender.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored the filling system with a new sac and it's working perfectly. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads, which extend and retract by twisting the top half.
Color Jet Black with gold filled trim. "Radius" clip is the flattened style, and it's got a medium sized 1/8" single cap band. Amber viewing window.
Nib EXTRA FINE 14k Sheaffer Lifetime nib. There are hairline cracks on both sides near the base of the nib, emanating from either side of the "Made in U.S.A." imprint; each one is about 1/16" long. Since the nib is firm with no flexibility, and we do not expect these to affect the pen's function, however the nib should not be pulled out or the cracks may worsen (we wouldn't be able to give you a refund if this happened).
Condition Excellent condition for this classic set. The fountain pen has light to moderate scratching on the cap and barrel, with some heavier scratching and tooth marks on the top of the cap. There are some scuff marks near the cap lip, almost straight down from the clip. The clip has some plating wear along the sides, and light polishing marks on the face. There are some tool marks on the front edge of the section. The barrel has light scratching and tiny "dot" marks. The end of the barrel has some additional scratching. The imprint is clear, and the white dot looks great. The mechanical pencil has light scratching and handwear on the cap and barrel. The clip has some plating wear along the sides, and just microscratching on the face. the cap band and cone have light scratching, but no brassing or plating wear. The imprint, just above the cap band, is crisp and clear. Ships in vintage oval-shaped Sheaffer box.
