Type Lever filling vintage fountain pen and mechanical pencil set.
Product Name Balance Lifetime 875. The pencil is actually from a "Lady Skyboy" set, according to the imprint on the clip. The Lady Skyboy fountain pen resembles this pen except for this one lacks the Skyboy imprint on the clip, so it's hard to tell the exact components of the original set.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA - 1940s (the Carmine color first appeared in a 1940 catalog).
Length Both pieces are 4-3/4" long.
Filling System Lever filler, we've replaced the sac and it's working perfectly. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads, which extend and retract by twisting the top half.
Color Carmine striated with gold plated trim. The pen has a White Dot above the clip.
Nib FINE two tone, gold Lifetime nib. It's firm and quite fine. It's in nice condition, and the masking is in excellent condition. Serial no. F14774 is stamped on the nib.
Condition Excellent condition, in a Sheaffer box. The color is uniform on this sleek set. Fountain pen: The cap has moderate scratching and surface marks/texture. The clip has light scratching, a small scrape on the ball end, and some touches of brassing. The white dot is yellowed, consistent with the pen's age. The cap band has microscratching and some denting. The section looks good, and the visualated portion is ambered but still translucent. There are marks on the front of the barrel from capping, as well as a band of tiny dimples. The rest of the barrel has mostly light scratching, with an area of heavier scratching and marks near the end of the barrel. The imprint is very clear. Mechanical pencil: The pencil is in excellent condition. The cap and barrel have moderate scratching. The clip has microscratching, and a tiny bit of brassing on the open end. The cap band has light scratching, but we can't see any brassing or plating wear. The cone has surface scratching, and a couple of dents or tooth marks. The imprints are very clear. Ships in oval Sheaffers box with an off-white, pearly exterior. There are some small stains on the top, but overall the box is in really great condition.
