Product Name Sheaffer Balance - Oversized and very fat
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- 1940s. The Carmine color was introduced in 1939 and continued until the end of the Balance product line.
Length 5-1/2"
Filling System Vacuum filler (vac-fil) filling system. It works with a piston and has been restored here at PSP. We guarantee the filling system for a year from the date of purchase.
Color Carmine striated color. It's a red marbled and black striated pattern. The darker stripes on the barrel are a semi-transparent yellow. It has gold filled trim and the white dot above the clip.
Nib MEDIUM Lifetime Two-Tone nib, with a hint of stub character. The vertical pen strokes are medium width, and the cross strokes are closer to fine.
Condition Excellent condition. The only real flaw is a crack in the cap lip, which does extend a bit past the cap band, and we have priced the pen about $100 less than we would ordinarily because of this. We've included a close-up shot of this area in the photos. Beyond this, there are no other cracks, or chips or dings. The clip has brassing on one side and around the ball end. The cap band looks great. The nib masking is partially polished away. This is a large-sized pen in a great color with classic design features. The cap and barrel have only light wear. The barrel has a slight bulge about an inch up from the blind cap. Barrel transparency is excellent. The white dot looks great. The imprints are clear.
