Type Vintage lever filling oversized fountain pen.
Product Name Balance Lifetime (this is an oversized model and very fat).
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- 1935-42 (those were the years they made the Balance in this color and with this clip).
Length 5-1/2".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working perfectly. This pen also has a visulated section.
Color Jet Black with gold plated trim, a 1/8" wide cap band, and a radius style clip.
Nib FINE gold Lifetime nib. It's smooth and firm. The tipping material looks great. It originally was two-toned, but about half of the masking has been polished away. It has serial number 4283615.
Condition Excellent overall condition. The cap and barrel have mostly light scratching, with just a few spots of moderate scratches. The barrel has a few scratches at the very end, and some marks from capping. The lever bar has brassing along the sides. There's a tiny bit of crazing/surface crackling at the very top of the cap, otherwise the cap looks great. The cap band has brassing along the edges. The clip has plating wear along and around all of the edges. No cracks or chips. The imprints are clear.
The barrel is personalized with "U. P. HUGHES"
