Product Description
Type Vintage ring top pen with a nicely flexible nib.
Product Name "Flat Top" ... this is the #2 pen in ring top form. From a 1923 catalog, we've found a very similar pen that's called "2SR" - 2 stands for the ring size, and we believe that S means short and R is for ring-top.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA - late 1910s - early 1920s
Length Just barely over 4-3/8", not including the ring top hardwear.
Filling System Lever filler. We've replaced the sac and it's working very well. We guarantee the filling system for a year from the date of purchase.
Color Black chased hard rubber with gold plated trim. The chasing pattern is a bit unusual, we've seen it called "ZigZag Bars" in some places; it's made of lines with a sort of long or stretched out zig-zag pattern.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE gold #2 nib is in excellent condition with nice tipping material. It's nicely flexible, with strong line variation from fine to broad or double broad. See our writing sample.
Condition Excellent condition. The black hard rubber on the cap and barrel is slightly faded. There's some handwear on the barrel, but not really any scratches. The lever bar has some plating wear along the sides and a bit at the open end. The imprint on the barrel is easily readable. No personalization. This is a modest ringtop, and the value of the pen is largely in the wonderful nib.
