Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen
Product Name 3A - a "Flat Top" model. The model number isn't marked, but this matches that description.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- 1910s. The nib, clip, feed, and imprint all point to the pen being made between 1912-1920.
Length 5-5/16" .... full length and slender
Filling System Lever filler - working perfectly with a good sac, just replaced here at Peyton Street Pens.
Color Black chased hard rubber. Silver colored trim.
Nib Flexible stub Sheaffer's #3 Self-Filling gold nib. There is a crack toward the base of the nib, from the bottom of the imprint and running back into the section. This does not affect the pen's function, though we strongly recommend AGAINST flexing the nib to the max. Get your line variation from the stub cut, don't expect more from flexing. See writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition, aside from nib crack mentioned above. There is microscratching and handwear on the cap and barrel. The chasing pattern is very clear, and the color is excellent with minimal fading - it's very dark and even. The lever has plating wear along the sides. The clip is mostly brassed. The imprints are slightly worn, but still easily readable and clear.
