Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen with a firm nib, restored and working well.
Product Name Self-Filling (aka "Flat Top"). From a 1923 catalog, this very much resembles one that Sheaffer called "3SC".
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA - early 1920s. The barrel has an imprint with the logo that debuted in 1922 (large S at either end, the 2nd S joining to the letter R), though the logo on the clip is the first style flat-top clip, reading "Sheaffer-Clip". It's possible that the cap was replaced, or perhaps the company was using up older parts.
Length 4-3/8"
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber with chrome plated trim.
Nib FINE gold Sheaffer's #3 nib. We usually see flexible "Self-Filling" nibs on this era of pen, so this #3 nib might be a replacement. Firm and smooth.
Condition Excellent condition with no chips, dents, or dings. This is a small, classically designed pen. The color is just a bit lighter on the cap than on the barrel, but still quite dark. The chasing pattern on the cap is more smoothed than the pattern on the barrel. The cap top has some small scratches. The clip has some brassing and some dots of pitting. There are two scratches on the flat end of the barrel. The end of the barrel has some shallow bite marks around it. The imprints are clear.
