Product Description
Type Lever filling vintage fountain pen with a unique gold overlay that was probably done fairly recently.
Product Name The underlying pen is generally referred to by collectors as "Flat Top".
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA - early 1930s. We don't know when the overlay was applied, but it's definitely not original to the pen.
Length 5-1/4" (Over-sized)
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color The very top of the cap and end of the barrel are light jade green. The barrel and cap have a full gold overlay, not marked as to gold content, with thin horizontal rings spaced about 3/8" apart. We're guessing someone enclosed an oversized jade green Lifetime, as-is, in this casing. Short hump clip with ball end. Black section. White dot on the flat top of cap.
Nib EXTRA-FINE Gold Lifetime nib with serial code: 0291539
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a large-sized, shiny pen. The overlay has lots of light scratching and tiny shallow dents, though in hand the pen has a very shiny, elegant appearance. There is also some brassing near the lever, and around the top of the cap The barrel has marks caused by the cap lip. There is a lot of denting and unevenness along the edge of the overlay at the end of the barrel, possibly the rest of manipulating the metal to better fit the underlying pen. The lever has plating wear at the pivot end and lots of scratching. The clip has plating wear along the sides and a ring of it around the ball end. The white dot at the top of the cap is excellent. The imprints are clear.
