Product Description
Type Vintage pen with a nicely flexible nib. No ring, no clip.
Product Name "Flat Top" ... the end of the barrel is marked 34A. We see 34 as a model number in a 1914 Sheaffer catalog (link is to the Pen Collectors of America Sheaffer library, scroll down to the 1914 catalog), as sitting between the model 3 and model 4. We can't find any documentation on what the "A" means.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA - late teens, early 1920s
Length Just barely over 5-5/16"
Filling System Lever filler. We've replaced the sac and it's working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber with a scalloped pattern.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE gold #3 nib is in excellent condition with nice tipping material. It's nicely flexible, with nice line variation from fine to double broad. See our writing sample. There is some scratching on the top surface of the nib, which does not affect the pen's writing performance.
Condition Excellent + condition, in box with paperwork. The black hard rubber on the cap and barrel is slightly faded in color. The chasing pattern is very clear. There's some light handwear and scratching on both the cap and barrel. The end of the barrel has one mark, about 3/8" long, a heavy scratch. The lever bar has plating wear. The imprint on the barrel is crisp and clear. No personalization. Ships in small cardboard box with instruction sheet.
