Type Vintage lever filling ring top fountain pen.
Product Name Sheaffer Flat-Top, model 37S. We see this model in Sheaffer catalogs between 1913-18.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA – mid to late 1910s.
Length 3-15/16" long, excluding ring top hardware. With the cap posted, the pen is about 5-1/8" long.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Gold-filled filigree overlay on black hard rubber. The catalogs say that the filigree is 18k gold-filled.
Nib Fine #2 nib, nice softness and flexibility. See our writing sample in the photos.
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. The lever has plating wear on the open end. The filigree overlay has various scratches and marks, as well as brassing and plating wear along the openings. The edge nearest the section has brassing all around. There is brassing around the cap lip and splotches of plating loss on the smooth "band" portion. The top of the cap has brassing and plating wear, and there are tiny dents around the top edge. The imprint is clear.
