Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen
Product Name Sheaffer Lifetime flat top (not an actual product line name, these flat top pens had numbers).
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- late 1920s - 1930s. The barrel imprint was made until around 1927, and this clip was introduced in the 1930s. This pen has a nib with a four-line imprint and a serial number, which were introduced in 1926, but also a streamlined feed with full comb cuts, which appeared around 1939. During that period, the White Dot represented a lifetime guarantee, and it's certainly possible (and not unusual) that parts were replaced by Sheaffer at different times.
Length 5-5/16" .... full length and slender
Filling System Lever filler - working perfectly with a good sac, just replaced here at Peyton Street Pens.
Color Black radite (early celluloid). Gold plated trim. There is a white dot on the top of the cap.
Nib FINE Sheaffer's Lifetime gold nib is in excellent condition. It has a nice shape, and the serial number 1000505 is stamped on it.
Condition Excellent condition. There is microscratching and handwear, but overall the impression in hand is a fairly smooth and shiny pen. There are light rings near the front of the barrel, from capping. The coloring is really dark and even, with no fading. The cap band has brassing and plating wear. There is brassing around the lower edge of the flattened ball clip end, and some tiny spots of plating wear around the edges of the rest of the clip. The lever has plating wear along the sides, and brassing on the top face. The imprint is slightly worn, but still easily readable and clear.
