Product Description
Type Snorkel fountain pen
Product Name Sentinel Snorkel, first year model
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in U.S.A. -- 1952-53, as identified by the 14k snorkel tube.
Length 5-1/2" long.
Filling System Snorkel filler, working very well after we restored it with a new sac, O-ring, and point gasket.
Color Black body with the Sentinel cap, which is stainless steel with gold plated clip and cap band. The steel has a lined pattern.
Nib MEDIUM 14k gold Sheaffer's Triumph style nib is smooth and firm. (If you look really hard at the back of the nib, it appears as though it was at one time marked with M5, meaning "medium 2-toned Triumph nib," though this has been worn down.) It is two-toned and has a slight "Waverly" upturn. Some of the masking is polished away.
Condition Excellent condition. There is handwear and microscratching on the barrel. The grooves on the blind cap look fantastic - they're crisp and well defined. There are some marks near the end of the barrel from posting. The cap threads have some plating wear. The White Dot is present and looks good. The cap has microscratching that dulls the appearance. The gold cap band has scratching and a bit of brassing on the lower edge. The clip has plating wear along the sides and around the top edge, and some brassing on the open end. The pen is fully restored and working very well.
