Product Description
Type Snorkel filling fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name Sheaffer Snorkel Signature. See this helpful article on the Penhero web site. (The Autograph models had a wide solid gold band and a solid gold clip, whereas the Signature models had a narrower solid gold cap band and the clips were gold filled.)
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- 1952 - the pen has the first year gold Snorkel tube.
Length Fountain pen is 5-9/16". Ballpoint pen is 4-3/4"
Filling System Snorkel filler. We've restored it with a new sac, point gasket, and O-ring and tested the pen thoroughly. It's working very well and we'll send instructions on how to use the snorkel filling system. The ballpoint pen has an old, no-longer produced "micro-crafted" ballpoint refill. The refill is dried up and not functional, and no current refill will fit this pen.
Color Black caps and bodies, and a 5/8" inch wide 14k gold cap bands. White dot above the clips.
Nib FINE Sheaffer's 14k triumph nib with palladium masking. The two-tone nib has a waverly upturn.
Condition Very nice condition. The fountain pen is a velvety black, shiny pen that is elegant with its wide 14k gold cap band. The barrel has light scratching. The blind cap looks good, with just a few marks in the grooves. The cap has heavy scratches near the top, and there are two cracks in the black plastic where the clip attaches. The clip has some plating wear along the sides. The cap band has moderate scratches. The white dot looks great. The ballpoint pen is non-functioning. It has moderate scratching all over. The clip has light scratching, and plating wear along the sides. The wide cap band has moderate scratching. The white dot looks good. The imprints are clear.
Both pieces have a signature reproduced on their cap bands. Our best guess is that they say "Andee Shibin".
