Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen with Snorkel filling system.
Product Name Sheaffer Statesman Snorkel. The Statesman is a white dot model similar to the Valiant, only with a palladium silver Triumph nib as opposed to two-tone.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- 1952-59.
Length 5-5/8"
Filling System Snorkel filler with an angled snorkel tube. The cut on the end of the tube is based off of the nib. We've fully restored it with a new sac, O-ring, and point gasket. Works very well.
Color Light grey body and cap with gold plated trim and a 3/8" gold cap band. This would have been called "Pastel Grey." White dot above clip.
Nib MEDIUM Sheaffer's palladium silver nib. It is not marked, but we judge it to be a medium.
Condition Excellent condition. This is a prettily colored light grey pen with beautifully contrasting gold trim. The barrel has light scratching. The cap has light to moderate scratching. There is a crack in the cap, opposite the clip, that runs about 1/4" upward from the cap band. The cap band has microscratching and one shallow dent, as well as brassing along the bottom edge. The clip has brassing and plating wear around the open end. The white dot is sunken into the cap. The imprints are somewhat faded, but clear.
The barrel is personalized with the name "Ray Oliphant".
