Product Description
Type Touchdown filling fountain pen and mechanical pencil set, restored and working well.
Product Name Valiant - this is the "Fat" Touchdown version from before the TM models were introduced.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- 1949-50, with a nib serial number: B56313
Length Fountain pen: 5-1/4 inches. Mechanical pencil: 5" long.
Filling System Touchdown filling system. We've restored it with a new sac and O-ring, and the pen is working very well. We will send instructions on how to use this filling system. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads.
Color Evergreen with a 3/8 inch wide cap band with a groove near either edge of it. The pen has an amber viewing window.
Nib Uncommon flexible Extra-Fine Sheaffer's 14k gold nib with serial number B56313. We believe it was originally two-toned, but the masking has been mostly polished away. See our writing sample below (note: the pen is misidentified in the writing sample - it's not an Admiral model, and the sample was made with this pen).
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a handsome, stately set in a deep green color. Fountain Pen: The cap and barrel have light to moderate scratching. There are some long (about 1"), thin scratches on the cap to the left of the clip. The clip has touches of plating wear long the sides. The cap band has light scratching, but no brassing or plating wear. The white dot looks good. The section looks good, with no interruptions in the ridges there. The barrel has light scratching all over. The end of the barrel where the blind cap joins has some slight irregularities in the plastic, which do not affect the pen's function. Mechanical pencil: There is light to moderate scratching all over. The cap portion has a couple of small tooth or melt marks near the clip. The clip and cap band have scratching, but no brassing or plating wear. The ridges near the cone look good. The cone has light scratching and a few tiny dots of pitting. The imprints on both pieces are clear.
