Product Description
Type Vintage vacuum fill fountain pen with matching pencil in original packaging
Product Name The Clipper. This is the standard model, not the fat oversized. The sticker on the pen's tag says 3735 and the pencil's 1335.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer created the WASP (which stood for W A Sheaffer Pen) brand in the late 1930s.
Length 5-1/16" (pen, pencil is just a little shorter).
Filling System Vacuum filler, restored with new packing and seal. The pencil takes 1.1mm leads.
Color This angled grid with grey marble is usually called "lizard" by collectors, so we're not sure if it was an official Sheaffer indentifier. It is really fascinating and complex. Chrome plated trim.
Nib 14k WASP #7 nib is marked "Writes Two Ways." It's a double sided nib ala the Parker 180. The barrel is marked "Semi Med" so we're confident the normal nib position produces a medium line, but we're not sure what "Semi" signifies. It's definitely finer when flipped over.
Condition New in box, never used. The vacuum filling system was dry and leaked a bit of water during our initial tests, so we went ahead and restored the filling system. No wear, but there are a few spots where the plating on the cap band has small dots of pitting. In general, the plating can often be the weakness in the WASP pens. No cracks or chips.
Original cardboard packaging is a little worn and dirty on the outside, but it seems to be complete with mini ink bottle. The ink is completely dried to a powder and the top of the ink bottle has some rust.
