Be the first to review this product

Sheaffer created the WASP sub-brand in the 1930s. This is a fountain pen and pencil set in Screaming Souls in Purgatory. The pencil takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads and the fountain pen, while marked Vacuum on the barrel, is a lever filled model. It has a two-tone flexible fine Vacuum steel nib. The set is in excellent condition, near perfect except for plating wear.

Type  pen set

Product Name  Wasp "Vacuum" according to the barrel imprint. While WASP did make vacuum piston fillers, this pen is a lever filler. We see this imprint fairly often on WASP lever fillers.

Manufacturer and Year  Sheaffer created the WASP (which stood for W A Sheaffer Pen) sub-brand in the late 1930s.

Length  The fountain pen measures 5-1/8" and the pencil measures 4-15/16".

Filling System  Lever filler fountain pen. It has been repaired with a new sac. Twist mechanism pencil. It takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads. There is an eraser beneath the cap.

Color  These have the "Screaming Souls in Purgatory" (officially called "birds eye") pattern. The material is a marbled and pearlescent green with black rounded spots throughout. Gold filled trim, though the plating was very thin

Nib  FLEXIBLE FINE. Vacuum nib is two-tone steel and nicely flexible. See writing sample below.

Condition  Excellent condition, near mint except for plating wear. The green and black material looks near perfect. The imprints are very clear. There is a large amount of plating wear but the pieces started with thinner plating.

Payment Policy: Paying via Credit Card or PayPal are the only methods allowed for addresses outside the United States. Customers from the United States also have the option of sending a check, money order or cashier's check. Payment method is selected during checkout.

Domestic US Shipping Policy: For the most part, shipping to US addresses is free and is made via first class mail.

International Shipping PolicyInternational shipping is based on weight, and we give you a choice (depending on country) of first class, first class registered, priority mail or express delivery (only Express Mail provides true tracking). Internatonal shipments valued at over $40 come with free insurance, unless that service is not available for your specific country. Most of our customers opt for the very reasonably priced first class mail method, which can take anywhere from one to four weeks. We are happy to discuss alternatives to the options currently offered during the checkout process, so please contact us if you'd like a quote.

Most countries charge customs fees on shipments from the United States, but this is not something we can estimate and there is no way to pay these fees in advance. It is the responsibility of the customer to anticipate these costs and pay them when they are assessed by your country or postal system. We have heard that shipments valued at 50 EU or more get assessed fees in EU countries, for example.

UK customers please note: Packages valued at over $18 are subjected to both an administrative charge and a tax by UK customs and Royal Mail. Sorry, this is not something we can predict or pay in advance.
