Product Description
Type Telescoping dip pen holder with a mechanical pencil option.
Product Name Unknown
Manufacturer and Year Unknown, it has no imprints but it is probably from the late 1800s.
Length 3-9/16" when collapsed with no nib or on the pencil side. 6-3/16" when extended with no nib or on the pencil side.
Filling System The dip pen component has no filling system. The mechanical pencil component is accessed by pulling out the dip pen component and reinserting it with the pencil part out. It has a twist mechanism but doesn't include the gripping to retract leads. It takes 0.9mm leads but only very short ones.
Color It looks and acts like it's solid sterling with a leaf pattern on the outermost part, the middle part has a large diamond grid pattern, and the third part has a small barleycorn pattern.
Nib Based off the width of the holder, it should take most dip pen nibs. No nibs are included. If the nib you want to use is too thin to stay in the holder you can pinch the metal a little to hold it in place. Don't pinch it too much or future nibs might not easily slide in.
Condition Excellent condition. There's a few dents on different parts and the nib/pencil attachment is a little loose but that can be easily adjusted by the user and the patterning is intact. It's a beautiful little piece, very unique and interesting.
