Product Description
Type Vintage lever filing fountain pen
Product Name Wahl Pen 4
Manufacturer and Year Wahl USA - 1920s
Length 4-5/8" long. The cap looks too big for the barrel, in terms of length, but it screws on perfectly. This pen could have been made up from a combination of parts, and as such would be incorrect, but it was done before we acquired it.
Filling System The pen is a lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Red (orange) hard rubber with a Greek key pattern. Black section. The trim is gold filled, including two narrow (1/16") cap bands.
Nib Wahl 14k #4 Flexible Nib. Line variation from extra fine to broad. See writing sample below.
Condition Very nice condition with cap lip cracks (this material is very hard to find without cracks). This is a small-sized, prettily colored pen with excellent chasing. In addition to the cap lip cracks, there is also a crack that begins at the upper cap band and goes about 1/2". The cap bands have brassing on the edges. The clip has plating wear along its edges, and brassing on the ball. The section has minimal scratching and no tool marks. The barrel is personalized with the name "Geo. Matheny". The lever has plating wear along the sides. The cap and barrel have random marks and scratches but not many. The chasing pattern is quite strong. The imprints are clear.
