Product Description
Type Vintage vacuum filling fountain pen.
Product Name Doric II oversized, the "II" series had cap bands that covered the cap lip to reduce cracking and came in different colors and used a different filling system. This is from the Airliner series.
Manufacturer and Year Wahl Eversharp, USA -- 1930s
Length 5-7/16" which we believe is the largest size for 2nd generation Dorics. (First generation oversize pens were approximately 5-3/4" and those were the longest Dorics.)
Filling System Vacuum (piston or plunger) filler. This was called the "One shot" vacuum filling system by Eversharp and is modeled after the Sheaffer vac-fil system. We've had the filling system restored by the folks at www.ink-pen.com and it's working very well. We'll guarantee it for one year, though we expect it to last reliably for much longer.
Color Green hatch with some pearlization and faceted. Gold filled trim with a 1/4" cap band that goes to the cap lip and has triangular cutouts.
Nib Eversharp adjustable #9 nib and feed. Line variation from extra-fine to broad. Please see writing sample.
Condition Excellent condition with no chips, dents, or dings. This is an intricately colored pen with lots of lines and patterns. It is faceted and shiny with excellent barrel transparency. The blind cap has quite a few tooth marks. The barrel has marks caused by the cap lip and moderate scratching. The cap also has mostly moderate scratching. The ornate cap band looks good, with brassing on the edges between the cutouts. The clip has plating wear along all of the edges. The Wahl double-check mark above the clip looks great.
Note: When we received the pen, the clip was very loose. We sent it to our friends at www.ink-pen.com for repair; it is in place, and feels secure, but you will want to be very careful with it. If you pull the clip away from the cap any further than the thickness of a piece of paper, it may come loose and we will not be able to give you a refund.
