Product Description
Type Vintage vacuum filling fountain pen.
Product Name Doric II, the "II" series had cap bands that covered the cap lip to reduce cracking and came in different colors and used a different filling system. This is from the Airliner series. This is the largest size in the Doric II line, but it is shorter than the first Doric's oversized pens.
Manufacturer and Year Wahl Eversharp, USA -- 1930s
Length 5-7/16" (the largest size)
Filling System Vacuum (piston or plunger) filler. This was called the "One shot" vacuum filling system by Eversharp and is modeled after the Sheaffer vac-fil system. We've restored the filling system in-house and it's working very well. We'll guarantee it for one year, though we expect it to last reliably for much longer.
Color Green hatch with some pearlization and faceted. Gold filled trim with a 1/4" cap band that goes to the cap lip and has triangular cutouts.
Nib Eversharp adjustable #9 nib and feed. Line variation from fine to broad. Please see writing sample.
Condition Excellent condition with no chips, dents, or dings. There is a crack on the blind cap, but it does not affect operation, and that is the only crack on the pen. This is an intricately colored pen with lots of lines and patterns. It is faceted and shiny with excellent barrel transparency. The barrel has marks caused by the cap lip and moderate scratching. The cap also has mostly moderate scratching. The very top of the cap has surface wear. The ornate cap band is excellent with just some microscratches but with no plating wear. The clip has plating wear along the top and near the end of the clip, and it stands out from the cap by about 1/16". The Wahl double-check mark above the clip has a bit of pitting.
