Color Black-brown woodgrain. The cap and barrel are made of ebony wood, with clear coats of urushi lacquer. The wood is deep brown, and in and the pen looks almost black, but in strong light or with a magnifier, you can see the woodgrain. The surface has been coated in layers of urushi lacquer in the Nurippanashi technique, which does not require the polishing step of other techniques. As a result, this pen features the Japanese "wabi-sabi" aesthetic, which encourages the acceptance of imperfections. Under magnification, we do see some tiny surface bumps or irregularities, like specks of dust trapped under a subsequent urushi layer.
Nib 1.5mm stub steel nib.
Condition New in box with paperwork. The surface is glossy and shiny. There are some faint scratches in the surface, though there are no large individual scratches. Ships in traditional Japanese Pauwlonia box with kimono, certificate, and some short international cartridges.
