Type  Fountain pen with telescoping cap. The pen has a cap, barrel and a sheath that fits over the cap with the ring hardware attached. This allowed the pen to be used in a variety of configurations that might suit users who had preferences about weight, length and balance. The pen could be used without a cap posted or with the cap posted, and the extra "telescoping" cap could be added over the cap which would make the pen almost 5 inches in length.

Product Name  Model 552 1/2 V (full solid gold overlay, lever filler, #2 nib, slender, short)

Manufacturer and Year  Waterman USA - circa 1920s

Length  3-5/8", not including ring top hardware. With both "caps" posted the length is almost 5 inches.

Filling System  Lever filler (We have restored the bladder and it works very well.)

Color  All engraved 14k gold over hard rubber (the hard rubber is only seen on the section and barrel lip). The barrel and cap completely covered with a floral (leaf and stem) design.  The pen is engraved (perhaps "GTB"?).

Nib  The nib is marked Waterman Ideal. The range is F to double broad. It has a good amount of flex, but not super flex or  not a wet noodle. This is one we consider full flex. Please see writing sample.

Condition  Superior condition.  No cracks, chips, or dents.  The pen is small, thin, dainty and has classy elegance.  There is a small ding and a few little marks on the top of the cap.  There is some light scratching on the pen, common with full solid gold overlay.  The lined area under the telescoping cap has a few little scratches also.  The pen is personalized.  The imprints are clear, including the 552 1/2 V imprint on the end of the barrel.

International Shipping PolicyInternational shipping is based on weight, and we give you a choice (depending on country) of first class, first class registered, priority mail or express delivery (only Express Mail provides true tracking). Internatonal shipments valued at over $40 come with free insurance, unless that service is not available for your specific country. Most countries charge customs fees on shipments from the United States, but this is not something we can estimate and there is no way to pay these fees in advance. It is the responsibility of the customer to anticipate these costs and pay them when they are assessed by your country or postal system. We have heard that shipments valued at 50 EU or more get assessed fees in EU countries, for example.

UK customers please note: Packages valued at over $18 are subjected to both an administrative charge and a tax by UK customs and Royal Mail. Sorry, this is not something we can predict or pay in advance.
