Product Description
Type fountain pen with a matching mechanical pencil
Product Name 0552 (marked on the end of the barrel). The number system is as follows: 0 = gold filled, 5 = full overlay, 5 = lever filler, 2 = nib size.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- 1920s.
Length The fountain pen measures 5-3/8". The pencil measures 5-1/8"
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler. We've restored it here at PSP with a new sac. The mechanical pencil uses a twist mechanism. The leads extend well but need to be pushed back in. It takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads.
Color Sheraton (lined) overlay pattern. Black hard rubber with gold filled overlay. The pencil has a hard rubber cone.
Nib FINE Waterman's Ideal #2 gold nib is very smooth. It is springy but the tines do not spread enough for line variation.
Condition Excellent condition. Both pen and pencil have similar wear. The exposed black hard rubber has lightened some in both pieces. They both have bite marks at the top. There are a few locations where you see some brassing: near the cap lip, and at the top of cap. There are a few small dents and marks. The pencil has brassing at the top as well and bite marks on the black hard rubber part of the cone. The metal part of the cone is worn. The ball ends of both clips have brassing. A bit unusually, neither pencil nor pen is personalized. The imprints are all legible.
