Product Description
Type Vintage flexible nib fountain pen
Product Name 0554 (marked on the end of the barrel). The numbering system translates as follows: 0 = gold filled, 5 = full overlay, 5 = lever filler, 4 = nib size. The final digit is really hard to make out, but we can see the nib size, and once you know that and take a second look at the imprint, it makes more sense.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- 1920s.
Length The fountain pen measures 5-7/16".
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler. We've restored it here at PSP with a new sac. We guarantee the filling system for a year from the date of purchase.
Color Sheraton (lined) overlay pattern. Black hard rubber with gold filled overlay.
Nib MEDIUM Waterman's Ideal New York#4 gold nib is very smooth, and has excellent flexibility. We got really good differentiation from medium-fine to a double broad with light pressure, and it has nice fine crosstrokes. Please see our writing sample in the photos.
Condition Excellent condition. The exposed black hard rubber has lightened slightly on the barrel end piece. The barrel has a few shallow dents, and there is brassing around the edges of the overlay. The lever tab has brassing across the middle; the rest of the lever looks quite good. The cap lip has a small dent, and the edge is slightly out of round. There are some shallow dents on the main part of the cap as well. There are small touches of brassing on the cap, as well as a ring of brassing around the top edge. The top of the cap has several dings and dents. The clip has plating wear along the edges and brassing on the ball end; it is fixed securely in place, with no wiggling. The imprints are legible.
The barrel is personalized with the initials "J A M".
