Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen in working condition, lever filler, hard to find.
Product Name Emblem. This body style had previously been called the Hundred Year Pen, but in 1945 the Federal Trade Commission laid down strict rules on product warranties. Waterman continued to produce what had previously been called the Hundred Year/100 Year Pen with nibs marked "Emblem." You also see the Emblem nibs on the later Medalist pens, but this ribbed model is from the 3rd version of the Hundred Year Pen. Non-threaded push-on cap with inner clutch,
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, USA -- circa 1941.
Length 5-1/4" long.
Filling System Lever filler. We've replaced the bladder with a new sac in the pen and the filling system works well.
Color Dark blue celluloid with a clear amber end piece. The end piece is a replacement and it has very good transparency. The cap has a wide cap band and a few ribs and the barrel is ribbed throughout.
Nib FINE Waterman's Emblem nib. It's quite springy and we consider it semi-flexible. The nib has some scratches on the top face, which does not affect the pen's performance.
Condition Excellent condition. The cap imprint looks great. The cap band has light scratching and some plating wear. The clip and top rivet look good, with brassing in the expected areas. The cap and barrel have scratching and handwear, with more handwear on the cap. The lever and lever housing have dots of plating wear, but are in good shape and working very well. No cracks, chips, dents, or major scratches. The end piece has been replaced but it looks very good, though you can see fine cracks where the replacement end piece was attached. As a warning, be careful when using the clip as the area where the clip attaches can be prone to cracking.
