Product Description
Type Vintage eyedropper-filling fountain pen with a flexible nib. Hard to find model.
Product Name Model 412 (marked very faintly on the end of the pen barrel). The 4 tells us that it has a full silver overly, the 1 indicates eyedropper filler and the 2 is for the nib size.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, the nib was made in Canada, but there are no other marks (1910s-1920s).
Length 5-3/16"
Filling System Eyedropper filling system. We've cleaned and tested it, it's working very well. We'll include an eyedropper kit and instructions on filling this pen.
Color Black chased hard rubber covered with sterling silver floral filigree.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE gold nib is marked "Waterman's Ideal Canada". Please see the writing sample below. The point is fine, and offers strong contrast to the flexed lines of the pen. Line variation from fine to a wide broad. We consider this almost fully flexible, though not a "wet noodle."
Condition Excellent condition for this ornate, elegant and hard to find fountain pen. The silver filigree looks beautiful and is in excellent condition overall. There is light to moderate scratching and some tiny dents and pitting all over, but in hand the pen looks quite nice. The hard rubber on the cap and barrel has fine scratching and many of the areas where it shows through have faded to a dark brown or olive. The piece at the end of the barrel has faded to a deep olive, and is smooth. The "412" imprint on the end of the barrel is quite faded, and a bit difficult to make out. The section has capping marks on the lower part, and moderate to heavy scratching on the top part near the nib. The cap is in similar condition as the barrel, with light scratching on the filigree overlay, and fading in the hard rubber underneath. No cracks, or areas where the sterling overlay has been compromised. The clip has a clear faceted jewel (likely glass) set into the ball end - it's possible that the ball end got damaged with a flat spot, or perhaps a hole, and the jewel was inserted in response.
