Product Description
Type Safety pen with an accomodation clip
Product Name 44 (marked on the end of the barrel). This is one of the Continental Overlay pens, which have basic hard rubber safety pens which were enhanced in Europe (usually France or Italy) with metal overlays. The pen is marked L.E.W. Ideal on both the cap and barrel.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman - 1920s.
Length 5-3/8" with cap on, 5-1/4" with cap off and nib extended.
Filling System Safety filler (thoroughly restored and tested, with new seals). We guarantee the filling system for a year from the date of purchase.
Color Smooth black hard rubber with an overlay of smooth solid 18k gold. There is a black cabuchon and a ring that originally held small diamonds or imitation diamonds, though many of them are missing.
Nib Waterman Ideal left oblique nib. Flexible, but not a wet noodle. Good tipping material evident from both the top and the bottom.
Condition Excellent condition and working well. The barrel is free from all except one very shallow dent, while the cap has more small marks. As mentioned above, there are quite a few stones missing from the ring at the top of the cap
There is a crack in the cap lip, which can been seen in the first photo below, but it does not extend as far as the threads inside the cap, so the pen does not leak. We caution you against posting the pen.
The nib is in excellent condition. The nib extends and retracts as it should, and the pen does not leak.
