Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen, working beautifully.
Product Name Model 554 L.E.C. This is a version of the model 54 (a lever filling pen with a #4 nib) in a solid gold overlay - the 5 in the hundreds place in the model means that it has a full overlay of solid gold overlay, and L.E.C. tells us that the overlay covers the barrel end.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, USA - circa 1920s
Length 5-1/2"
Filling System Lever filler. We've replaced the bladder and it's working very well. We guarantee the filing system for a year from the date of purchase.
Color 14k solid gold overlay. Smooth, no patterning. The section is black hard rubber. It has a personalization on the barrel: the first line says "Sidney J. Baumann" and the second line says "David T. Howes (Thanks Sid)" . (We bought this pen as part of the David Howest collection.)
Nib Excellent flex, medium-fine. Line variation from fine to broad. The nib is marked Waterman's Ideal. Please see writing sample.
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks. There are a few tiny dents - the top edge of the cap as well as the cap top has some, and then there is one on the barrel about 1/4" to the right of the first line of engraving. The cap has a shallow dent between the ball end of the clip and the cap lip. The cap and barrel have light scratching and polishing marks all over. The knurled pattern at the end of the barrel has some slight unevenness and shallow denting. The lever has some brassing on the sides, but largely looks good. The section looks really good. The clip looks quite nice with just some light scratching, and is also marked 14k. The imprints are all clear.
