Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen and mechanical pencil set.
Product Name Lady Patricia(n)
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA - circa late 1920s.
Length Small size, both pieces are 4-1/4" long.
Filling System The pen is a lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac. The pencil takes 1.1mm leads, which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism (you twist the cone), and we'll include a small packet of leads. Both pen and pencil are working very well.
Color "Persian" pattern with some tight opaque swirls. Parts of the celluloid have discolored to a slightly more brown and yellow (especially on the pen). This pattern is often confused with the "onyx" pattern, but we can assure you that this one is the "Persian", further confirmed by the black cap lip.
Nib FLEXIBLE EXTRA FINE gold Waterman's Ideal #2 nib is smooth with great tipping material. It's very close to what we would call fully flexible, with very easy line variation from extra fine to broad, and even more with a little pressure. See our writing sample in the photos.
Condition Excellent condition. The fountain pen has a crack in the cap, about 1/2" from the top, and running horizontally about halfway around. It's currently stable, but definitely something to watch out for and you should NEVER drop this cap! About half of the cap is discolored and yellowed. The clip has a lot of scratching and scuffs as well as corrosion along the sides. The cap top piece has light scratching. The cap band has light scratching and some brassing along the edges. The barrel is yellowed, though you can still make out the swirly pearliness of the material. The lever and housing have some scratching around the edges, and just small touches of brassing. The pencil looks good. The color on this one is stronger (no surprise, as the color is often the result of off-gassing from the rubber sac, and of course the pencil doesn't have this.). The clip and cap finial have light scratching and some light plating wear along the sides of the clip. The cap band has scratching and some plating wear. The cone has scratching but no brassing or plating wear. The imprints are all very clear and readable. They're both working very well, and the pen is fully restored.
