Product Description
Type Early mechanical pencil, working well.
Product Name Not marked, but it's the same length pencil as we've seen in sets where the model number ended in 2 (such as the 452). It could also have been the mate to a pen with a model numbe ending in 4. This is the "hand engraved vine" pattern which was the most expensive of the standard cataloged patterns. This was really a deluxe pattern, as the clip was also given some hand engraved ornamentation.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- 1920s.
Length 5-3/8"
Filling System It takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads, which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism. The leads don't always retract but they do extend. The top of the pencil comes off to reveal a lead reservoir.
Color Fully engraved sterling silver in a floral and leaf pattern, black hard rubber cone with a metal tip. This pencil also has a patterned clip.
Condition Excellent condition. There are a few scratches on the imprints near the cone. The sterling also has a few small dents but they're very difficult to notice with the extended detailing of the patterning. The pencil has been used and there are fine scratches on the top of the cap and some handwear on the hard rubber cone. The pencil has been personalized, "C.A.R. to J.S." The pencil is working well.
