Product Description
Type Safety pen in solid gold, very hard to find.
Product Name The side of the barrel end piece says "Waterman's Safety Pen" and the end of the barrel is imprinted with "542 1/2 V" (barrel end). These small Waterman safeties are often called "Baby" pens.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman USA - 1920s. Usually when we see these solid gold overlay safeties, we think they were probably done in Europe, but the lack of European hallmarks and the fact that the gold content is labelled "14 KT" makes us think the work was done in the USA.
Length 3-7/16" capped, 4-5/8" posted
Filling System Safety filler. We restored the filling system, and there are no leaks. We guarantee the filling system for a year after purchase.
Color Solid 14k gold overlaid on black hard rubber. The gold has a textured surface - it looks like a barleycorn pattern, but it's not just engraved lines, you can feel the little bumps on it and they look like small pyramids.
Nib Waterman's Ideal flexible nib in medium. The tipping is uneven, but the pen writes smoothly. Line variation from medium to double broad - see writing sample below.
Condition Superior condition with only slight, even wear on the gold. There is faint scratching and some tiny pinpoint dings on the top of the cap. No cracks or chips in the BHR. No personalization. The gold nib, stamped "Waterman's Ideal New York" is in excellent condition and extends and retracts easily. The imprints are very clear.
