Product Description
Type Vintage inspired fountain pen.
Product Name Viceroy. This is the Standard size.
Manufacturer and Year Yard-O-Led, made in England -- 1985-88. There aren't the usual British assay office hallmarks, which would include a datemark, but we found a discussion thread on Fountain Pen Network that supports it having been made in that time period.
Length 5-7/16"
Filling System Takes international cartridges and converters. A piston converter is installed.
Color Smooth sterling silver cap and barrel, with hand-carved flourishes. It has a black plastic section.
Nib Medium 18k Nib, marked M on the face. It has partial silver-colored masking for a two-toned appearance.
Condition Excellent condition. There is light handwear on the cap and barrel. The overall appearance of the pen is smooth and shiny, with mostly very light scratches on the cap and barrel, but nothing large or deep. The top of the cap and end of the barrel do have some scratching. The section has scratch marks from the cap. The trim rings nearest the nib have plating wear and pitting. The imprints are easily read. No personalization. The pen is working very well. Ships in wooden Yard-O-Led box with paperwork. There is also an outer cardboard box which has what appears to be some water damage to the outermost paper layer, but is otherwise in good shape. The original clip tag with price ($750) is also present in the box.
NOTE: Usually, we would see the YOL and 925 hallmarks on the cap, and then more detailed hallmarks on the barrel, which give information about the date and location the pen was made (British hallmarking is quite detailed!). The barrel and cap on this one only have the YOL and 925 hallmarks, and we think that's because the barrel has been replaced at some point (this is also supported by a former YOL employee commenting in the above-mentioned FPN thread). This is pen number 444 (the company numbers their pens sequentially), which is engraved near the top of the clip.
