Product Description
Type Fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name Unknown. There are only very faded imprints on the barrel; the nib has no imprints. We can make out "Chicago", and then the line above that looks like it could have said "Grieshaber's Umpire Pens", like the imprint on this pen we've had in the past.
Manufacturer and Year Grieshaber Pens, Chicago -- 1920s.
Length 5-3/8" long, and slender.
Filling System Eye dropper filled. Tested and working well. We will include instructions of using the filling system, as well as an eye dropper kit that includes silicone grease and a pipette.
Color Black chased hard rubber. There are ornate gold bands at either end of the barrel with a gold filled overlay.
Nib FLEXIBLE EXTRA-FINE nib is smooth with nice tipping material. It flexes easily, and produced line variation from extra-fine to medium. See writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. The pen has not been personalized. The gold bands have quite a bit of plating wear and brassing, but the pattern is lovely and easily made out. Both cap and barrel have faded to a dark brown. The chasing pattern on the barrel is nearly smoothed down, but you can still make out the shadows of the pattern. The only imprint we see is on the barrel, and as mentioned above, it's mostly smoothed down and hard to make out. No cracks. We've fully restored the pen and it's working well. The cap is not threaded and it stays on reasonably well, but you'll want to exercise care not to hold it by the cap as the cap comes off easily.
